About the author
I have always been an avid reader of news. I however became disappointed in the bias of the mainstream media and low quality of the blogs, so I set out to find something better. I found Wikinews and have been actively involved with Wikinews for over two years. I quickly became a Wikinews Admin, soon after that a Wikinews Bureaucrat, and recently a steward for Wikimedia.
Abstract
Wikinews is a unique news site, with an equally unique community. This presentation will explore what makes Wikinews different from the traditional mainstream media, other citizen journalism projects, blogs and Wikipedia. This presentation will also explore the future of Wikinews and its expansion into other formats. Wikinews has experimented with audio and video reports, a more traditional daily print edition, support for mobile devices and other new media formats.
