The authors have successfully extended a wiki project, Wikitravel, with social networking tools and personal opinion tools (blog engine, photo sharing, discussion forums) to strengthen the wiki community and provide multiple modes of self-expression for long-time and prospective contributors. We discuss technical and cultural challenges in rolling out non-wiki features for an established wiki project.
